SYDNEY GABBARD, SOPRANO
Take a look...
Opera is visual. Contrasting to popular perception, opera is transforming into an increasingly visual art. Some people attribute this to the growing popularity of the HD Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts. However in its birth, opera was performed in intimate theaters where audience members could distinguish singer's expression.
With the advancement of technology, the pallet of expression in opera has expanded immensely. Scenic and Lighting designers have developed a plethora of new ways to ignite an audience through visual stimulation.
Sydney has been praised for her ability to adapt and communicate in conceptual and traditional operatic designs. This is evidant in her stunning portrayal of Musetta, in a "Post-Apocalyptic" La boheme. (SEE BELOW)
Juxtaposed with the traditional costuming of Hansel und Gretel and Our Town, Sydney's beauty permeates in all contexts. While malleable in designing, her energy shines through.
